Environmental health: Our climate action
Environmental health: Our climate action

t Johnson & Johnson, we know that human health and environmental health are fundamentally linked—healthy people need a healthy planet. For more than two decades, we have set and achieved carbon reduction goals. Our current climate goals, which build on more than two decades of climate action, focuses on the transition to 100% renewable electricity and carbon neutrality in our global operations, in addition to reducing upstream emissions by engaging our suppliers. We also recognize that our opportunity to drive positive change extends beyond our value chain, so we are working with like-minded partners to accelerate and scale solutions to help tackle today's global health challenges, including climate change and health inequity.

According to the WHO, climate change is the single biggest health thread facing humanity, and climate-sensitive health risks are disproportionately felt by the most vulnerable and disadvantaged.1

Johnson & Johnson is now procuring the equivalent of 100% of its electricity from renewable sources for all our current sites in Europe, an important step towards our climate goal of 100% renewable electricity globally by 2025.

Our global climate goals

To do our part, we’ve set three public goals to reduce GHG emissions across our value chain:
  • Circular image
    Renewable Energy
By 2025, source 100% of our electricity needs from renewable sources.
  • Circular image
    Carbon neutrality
By 2030, achieve carbon neutrality for our operations, going beyond our Science-Based Target to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions 60% from 2016 levels.
  • Circular image
    Reduce Scope 3 emissions
By 2030, reduce absolute upstream value chain (Scope 3) emissions 20% from 2016 levels.
